If you REALLY want to do it right, the BEST way is to have the rear leaf springs re-arched and add a leaf. This procedure costs between $150-$200 and you'll never have the problem again. Mavericks & comets are NOTORIOUS for the rear sagging because they have only 3 rear leaf springs. Ford offered a "towing package" in the '70s which had four. But most cars don't have them. As for air shocks; they SUCK. I have them on my '73 Maverick right now but not fot much longer. They make the car handle poorly and If you "jack them up" too high, they can literally rip the shock mounts from the unibody. Save your penneys and "do it right or don't do it at all".
