The horsepower at the rear of the crankshaft will
not increase by putting a lighter transmission in
your car manual or automatic. Lighter rotating
mass will get more of your horsepower to the rear
wheels though. I'm involved with stock car racing
and we use Muncie 4 speeds with 14 pounds removed
from the rotating mass including 1st and 2nd gears.
We also use aluminum drive shafts, light weight
axles and rims. We use a 6" triple disc clutch set
up on a automatic flex plate. All of this gets the
car off the corners much faster because the engine
does't have to spin through a lot of heavy crap
before it plants the tires to the pavement.
