My experience has shown that between a toploader and
C-4, at least, when you look at ALL the stuff between the back of
the engine and the front of the driveshaft, the auto is LIGHTER!
This is not so with C-6, however. The horsepower available AT THE
REAR WHEELS is greater with a manual tranny, simply because it is
more efficient, i.e., there are less pumping losses and slippage.
Hooking up a manual is somewhat more difficult, however. Case in
point: Late model Mustangs, 5-speed vs AOD. No contest. AOD is a
terrible transmission from a performance standpoint.
