: I'm not sure, though I think it is probably early. It was the first Maverick that the local Ford dealership got in. It was bought by a man who died one week later and the widow didn't want to keep the car. The dealership (owned by my uncle) then bought the car back and resold it to my grandfather, who then gave it to me when he got to old to drive in 1991 (he died this month at the ripe old age of 100). From what I've read the fact that the ignition switch is on the dash means that it is an "early" Maverick, but I think I also read that the early ones did not have an automatic tranny and mine does.
: As far as my engine problem goes, I think the fouled plug suggestion is probably it. I will check it in the next few days and see.
