Well, it's like this. I have had my '70 for ten years (it was my first car).
It still has the original 200 cid I6 and C4 auto tranny. I just rebuilt
all the mechanicals in November. I have parked it three times to drive other
vehicles only to return to my trusty Mav. When I rebuilt the mechanicals it
just "could use" the rebuild, not NEED it. This after about 175k miles, and
it was not "babied", and still isn't. Of course I'd love more power, and here
lay the REAL advantage of the Mav., it's versatility. I can put a 351 in it
that, with some aftermarket goodies, will give anything they are making today
a real run for it's money. With the original 200 it gives me easily 25 mpg on
the highway, gas mileage even a poor country boy like me can afford. In 4-door
form, especially with a/c, it makes an excellent family sedan rivalling
anything they make today (the Ford Tempo is it's modern equivallent). Needless
to say, it is the kind of car they should me making today, and don't. In each
individual category, there is a car that might beat the Mav., but nothing comes
close to matching it's versatility.
