I have a '76 (my first car) with 182,000 miles and the original engine
and a rebuilt transmission. The transmission rebuild was actually the
result of my own doing, so technically, that doesn't count. As for
Japanese cars, I've seen Japanese cars that are lemons, so you can't
expect a perfect car just because it was made in Japan. As with any car,
you get out what you put in. Fortunatley, I haven't had to put much in
beyond the stuff that normally wears out (after 100,000 on wheel bearings and
ball joints, I can't complain). If you find one that's not been neglected,
you can't go wrong.
