You can't beat a Hurst. I installed one in a 73
Duster once. It was spring loaded to help you shift
to second and it outlasted the car. I even sold
it for what I paid for it after I junked the car.
I don't know what your shifter looks like but if
there are bolts that go right through the body of
the shifter into the trans. bracket, they might
be too tight and are squashing any shimming in the
body. I've seen that before.
