...and get a 2-door with a V-8...

: I have a '71 Mav 4 Door I6 200, had it for about 2 months now, the car has basically sat for the past 2 -4 years, was driven a occasionally in the past 11 months, before I owned it. What else should I look for other than the following, this includes everything I've done and plan to do. It's got about 127,000 original miles and hasn't been maintained for a very long time, I don't think the oil has been changed in the last 10,000 miles, judging by all the gunk and the blackness of the oil.

: Valve Cover Gasket, Carb Rebuild, Plugs, Fuel Filter, Air Filter, Oil Changed, Oil Filter, Oil Pan Gasket, Stabilizer Bar Ends and bushings, Plug Wires, Battery Cables and V Belt

: I will be doing Shocks, Tires, Breaks, Starter Cables, Timing Chain, Distributer Cap, Heater Core, New front end bushings, as well as a few other thinks.

: Tires and Breaks are a must, as well as the timing chain.

: I know my stering is really slopy, lots of play in the wheel, and it jerks to the left and/or right when I brake (hoping the brake job will fix that tonight) What else can I do to tighten up the stering?

: It needs a lube job bad, and I'll be filling the grease gun this evening as well, and finding all the niples that are hiding under oil, dirt and general road grim, and also may buy shocks today and istall them. What else can I do to beaf up the suspension? Anybody know of a good complete bushing set for the mav? Mainly concerned with the front end right now.

: Tires will be done in about 2 weeks, still thinking about size options without replacing stock rims, it's got 195/75/14's all the way around right now. Any futher suggestions on that?

: The new plugs fire great, no ring problems, and no blow by that I can tell so far. I got a lifter sticking, but it's stoped for now, I plan to replace the lifters, valve springs and rods before the years out.

: I'm going to do the brakes, wheel bearings and wheel cylinders tongight, if not more, just depends on how far I can spread my current budget. I will have about another 600 bucks to spend on it in about 2 weeks, that will go towards tires and other important things, maybe some new seats.

: Basically, how am I doing? What should I do next, and what else should I look for? (Common problems with older cars that sat way too long)
: This is my first car, and I have very little mechanic experiance, but I am good at taking things I know nothing about and fixing them, without cutting corners. I have done things with the car I could imaging I would accomplish. I don't even have the book yet, but will tonight also! Everyday I love my mav a little more, because everyday it runs a little better. I'm not planing on putting some power under the hood till I go to a 302 next year (Hopefully) I will paint it and install some nice stereo and alarm equip. in it before then.

: Sorry for the extremely long post, but I want to make sure my mav makes it far into the next Millenium! In 2030, I guess I'll have to put an electric engine in it, because they will probably outlaw combustion engines...hehe.

: Thanks for all the help, this board has saved my A$$ as well as my Long Distance bill to my Mechanic up in Dallas. Havn't had to call him yet!
