It wasn't as crazy as you make it sound... the 9" wasn't possible, but all that meant was getting a different rear end (not a big deal). In the end, though, it turned out that the engine i had needed more work than i had money...basically everything was shot in it, even though it was a fairly low-mile car. Crank needed to be polished, new cam, valve job, bearings all around, plus the manifold had all the EGR crap and i was missing the 2bbl carb for it. So, it turned out it would have been more of a hassle than it was worth.
Today i'm going to "test fit" those disk brakes on my car, i know they aren't listed as a fit for the mavericks, but they are VERY VERY similar dimension-wise. Maybe i just missed a spot, i'll see today when i try em for fit.
I didn't buy the Torino, i got it for free from a friend because he had run my maverick into the side of a Expedition...cost me about $300 to fix my mav., and i got MUCH more than that out of the torino ($250 for the cleveland, to start with). Still have the FMX and disks sitting in my garage, too.
A quick update on my car, tho....i got it painted and finished the interior (with exception of the door handles) just a week or two ago, i sent the picture the Stefan and he posted it, i think i'm the second-to-last maverick...Chris Collord. Once i get that grille you sent me, Craig, all i'm missing is the front bumper. From there, i'm going to do a five-lug conversion some time, and then i'd like to put a windsor in the mav (i personally don't like the 302's...they're nice, but i like CI's and therefore extra horsepower). We'll see though.
