try the screwdriver in the choke (or whatever) trick. sometimes (with thick oil) my car does the same thing, it cranks but wont start. so i unscrew the air filter thingie (i dont have much car experience, obviously!) and you see the air choke (or whatever the hell it is). just stick a screwdriver in there to hold it open, and then turn the key. (dont press on the gas UNTIL it has started) that may be the reason. try it and see... it works for me!

: Went to the yard to check out the Comet today and here's what happend, I'm at a loss...

: First, it's been sitting a LOOOOONG time, the battery of course is toast. Starter seems to also be bad as we had to use the old "screwdriver to the selenoid" trick.
: The points seem ok, the roter turns and the car cranks really hard BUT won't catch. It tries but as soon as you let go of the throttle there's silence (ecept the guy who's cursing up a storm). the carb IS getting gas (hell the damn thing is leaking a bit) so I don't think it's a feul pump problem....
: What do you think?
