...One advantage of a V configuration is the engine dumps its exhaust into two separate manifolds. An inline six dumps all six cylinders into a single (read restricted) manifold. By switching to a split header/dual exhaust, you remove an unbelievable amount of downstream backpressure. This is the single most cost-effective way to add power to the six. You will really feel it above 2500 rpm. Add a two barrel and that engine will perform better than you would would guess the old boat-anchor was capable of. Yes, the sound is pretty nice too - like a vintage Jaguar;-)
