: Brain The rods and crank are all differnet. Go to a 302 with a machined crank and rebuilt 302 rods. The 289 heads are the lower cc heads for good comp. Exhaust ports need claening out big time, and go to 351w Int. Exh valves with a three angle valve job.]Or get the 351w early heads or gt40heads(same thing) and put on there. but stroke it to a 302. 289 parts are getting exspensive, besides you get 13 more cubes at the same weigth

Brian, that 67 289 is a good start for a performance motor-the early blocks(289-6 bolt) has more meat around the mains than alate model 5.0 block and the 289 casting is better material. you'ld have to get a Boss block to do any better. Yes the obvious stroke difference also means adifferent length connecting rod and piston compression height. Other than that, I believe all parts are interchangeable.
