I don't know if you are interested in this, but the rearend tag off of my 1974 parts car (mercury comet) indicates a 2.73 rear ratios

: : The Explorer rearend is normally a 8.8 setup. The brake assembly will work if the bolt holes in the housing ends are the same. Just get all the cable hardware for it. Never heard of it , but what the hell , try any thing, just make sure you have disc up front first, read about the Versailles rearend in another story from earlier today. As far as the axles go, doubt it very much. Different rearend make, go to the 5lug Mav axles out there in the yards. Posi's go to a after market and lower gears, Mavs didn't have anything lower then 3.00. My experience , most people build horsepower and then can't figure out why they blewup the rearend, start at the rearend and work forward.
: I just found your forum the other day... it looks great and I have already found it very informative.

: : I came across some info that suggested that the axles and other components off a '95-97 Explorer(rear disk years) were bolt on conversions for a Maveric rear. Anyone ever done this or able to confim or deny this?

: : I am new to the restoration scene and have a few questions about Possi rears.
: : I have read (here on this forum) that the Merc capri had a possi rear, but then I read that any rear can be converted using a kit, and probably cheaper than restoring a used rear. Do I have this right? I had planned on finding a five lug rear to replace my four lug(did the front brake swap)... would i be better off going to a Capri rear and rebuilding it or find a plane rear and restoring the putting on possi?

: : Is the Capri possi rear any different from a Maveric rear with possi added?
