A calm voice of reason! (Thanks!)
Yeah, it probably IS just loose linkage... it's been something I've been meaning to have done for the last few weeks.. I just have been caught up in the excitement of haveing her "made over" all at once.... I am worried about those two hoses tho', I mean, both of them are going at once... PROBABLY have been bad for a while and a faulty thermostat has just made it more apparent...
*sigh*

ROLL ON NOVEMBER!

: While your doing that.....
: Check the only two things you can do to a tranny without dropping it and opening it up. I think Alice is automaic

: Warm her up and fill check the fluid. I am sure you have done that.

: Secondly, a misaligned linkage may be an easy fix. That nut doesn't need to come too loose before your gadge says your in reverse but the tranny just ins't there. Anyway it is an easy check and can't hurt.

: Going from under the drivers side door the linkage is about 2 feet under the car attached to the side of the tranny by one nut. Take that nut off and slide the linkage out of the way. Remember where it is now because that is park. (Either all the way up or all the way down, I can't remember without looking at it.) Then using your hand or, vice grips if you have to, put the tranny in the different gears. you should hear nice smooth clicks. (P,R,N,D,D1,D2) Put Alice back in park.

: Have a friend open the door and shift the car into different gars while your holdind the linkage and when they do check for any play. There shouldn't be any. If there is then you have a problem at the other end of the linkage. Put your shifter back into park.

: Now replace the bottom end ot the linkage back onto the tranny and tighten the nut. If it was a bit off or loose then you will feel the difference immediately. Good luck hope that a loose linkage is all that you have.
