:The 7A20 is the cast date when the heads were cast , 1967 Jan. 20th. the day was cold and dreary, snow was falling and the boss was in a bad mode. Make sure and get those heads magnafluxed for cracks sounds like one might be with that water, if comes out good, just a bad gasket. Early 289/302 had a over heating problem real bad. that's why the later change in head to block water holes.
As far as the AOD goes don't forget the TV cable/rod, a must have item. Good trans thou, stick a set of 4.10 gears in her and OD = 3.09s, works great both ways
Went and picked up the '67 289 today. Paid $50.00 for it. Have the block
: sold already. Actually traded it for a fresh AOD tranny. One of the heads
: has me concerned though. One of the outside cylinders has lots of corrosion
: on the combustion chamber. As if it had a blown head gasket (optimistic)
: or a crack (my luck). Whatever it is I hope it can be fixed. The other seven chambers
: look great. The heads have "289" stamped on one side and "66" stamped on the other
: and the casting number appears to be "7A20." If anyone has any insight on old Ford
: heads, could you please give me an idea as to what they came out of? Out of
: curiosity mostly...
: Thanks, Brian.
: P.S. I'd like to thank everyone for there ideas and suggestions over the last few
: days. It was greatly appreciated.
