replace the gauge voltage regulator behind the instrument cluster . they cost between $8-13 . burn out from age.

Since I'm going a bunch of other stuff to my 73 now, I figured what the hell might fix my fuel gauge too. I think the gauge is the culprit but wanted opinions (they never hurt). I but in a known good and accurate sending unit about 3 years ago, does the same thing. It pegs itself above full and when it gets really empty the gauge falls to the full mark. Usable but annoying. I keep it topped off and have no problems as I know about how far I can run on a tank. The problem is when the wife drives it, she doesn't. The wiring seems OK, so could it be the gauge or something else?
