Competition Cams sells 1.84/1.54 valves for these new heads...they are the same size valves as the 351 Windsor and the modern Mustang 5.0L engine. You will have to have the heads machined but you probably need a valve-job anyway so why not install these bigger valves.

: Okay, yes the combustion chambers are visibly smaller than the one on my spare 302 head. As far as the exhaust ports go, just use a die grinder and stone to open them up (backyard port job...)? Doesn't really matter what heads I end up using, I still have to get them re-worked, but, I can't afford an all out port and polish job right now.
: I am VERY open for suggestions...

: Thanks, Brian.

: : as far as high comp, only because of the small chambers , valve size was small to, ports exh, specially suck badly,
: : : :
: : Went and picked up the '67 289 today. Paid $50.00 for it. Have the block
: : : : sold already. Actually traded it for a fresh AOD tranny. One of the heads
: : : : has me concerned though. One of the outside cylinders has lots of corrosion
: : : : on the combustion chamber. As if it had a blown head gasket (optimistic)
: : : : or a crack (my luck). Whatever it is I hope it can be fixed. The other seven chambers
: : : : look great. The heads have "289" stamped on one side and "66" stamped on the other
: : : : and the casting number appears to be "7A20." If anyone has any insight on old Ford
: : : : heads, could you please give me an idea as to what they came out of? Out of
: : : : curiosity mostly...

: : : : Thanks, Brian.

: : : : P.S. I'd like to thank everyone for there ideas and suggestions over the last few
: : : : days. It was greatly appreciated.
