: First thing is to put in new bulbs, I have seen countless people swear that they checked their bulbs and they say the were good. Change the bulbs, then if that doesnt work check the fuse panel for a blown brake light fuse. If this doesnt solve the problem I would put my head down beneath the brake pedal and look up and find the brake light switch, make sure that it is functioning properly. If that doesnt cure it then i would start tracing wires, and doin continuity test. Good luck!!
: : Check continuity on the brake light switch. It is attached to the brake pedal under the dash. There should be two lime green wires coming out of it. Check these wires, and ohm check the switch in and out.

: : Ya also might want to check the bulbs.

: : : Do you also have any problems with your turn signals and/or hazzard lights/blinkers?

: : : If so, your problem is most likely in the steering column. Even if you don't, the problem is most likely the part of the wiring harness that is in the column. Most of the Mavericks lighting goes through that harness and I have had to replace that in both of my mavericks.

: : : Not cheap, it is a $150.00 harness and if you buy it out of a yard you will have to buy the whole collumn (also not cheap $50 - $100 depending on condition.)and there is no garantees that is will work

: : : Anyway, under the dash by the lighter is a part of the wiring harness that is labeled brakes. Each wire is labeled. I would start there. ande hope that you find the short. If not then, bite the bullet and buy the harness. The problem is that you may not find someone willing to sell you one. They are NOT oem and you must go to a good auto wiring place to get them. In my case, I had to have them install the first one and then they let me just buy the second for my other Mav.

: : : Good luck.
