...There is no difference because there is only one type of 3-speed tranny. Period. I specifically refer to my 1975 Motor Repair Manual(listing all makes and models from 1969 through 1974), page 2-177(Application Index). The transmissions are listed by "type" one through eight. Here is the listing:
Comet & Montego 1969-1974 Type 6; page 2-187
Cougar 1969-1972 Type 6; page 2-187
Fairlane & Torino 1969-1974 Type 6; page 2-187
Falcon & Maverick 1969-1974 Type 6; page 2-187
Ford 1969-1972 Type 6; page 2-187
Mercury 1969-1971 Type 6; page 2-187
Mustang 1969-1973 Type 6; page 2-187
It doesn't matter if it is a big block, small, block or six - they are all the same internally. Even some of the parts will interchange with a 4speed. There will be differences in tail housings only to accommodate column/floorshift and full-size versus compact body styles. Big blocks may also use a larger input shaft. Everything else is the same. You won't have any trouble putting it behind a 302. Oh my God, I'm turning into T.L. ;-)
