: My grandfather just got a 1999 Chrystler 300M. It has a posi rear, and a button on the dash labled trac off. It will turn off the posi traction. What is the point of this? It's been driving me crazy for a month, trying to figure out why you would want to kill your posi. Any ideas?
For in town use, where you will be going other than a straight line, the posi rear will wear the crap out of the drive wheel tires. In addition, a really astute driver can probably "feel" the differance. Thuning off the posi makes the differential work better. HELL leave the damn thing off all the time and rig it to come on only at wide open throttle. On ice or snow the posi only helps at start up. When cruising, the posi probably does more harm that good!
