Just did that myself. place here had felt (?) gasket. Book says 12-16lbs torque on pan bolts. Also says not to use Dexron as it could reduce the life of the tranny. It's my understanding that Type F is for Fords and Dexron is for everything else. Least that's what I was told when I worked at a gas station 15 years ago. :-)

: I replaced the transmission pan gasket about 3-4 months ago and its been leaking a little bit ever since. In the last few days it started leaking really bad so I bough another gasket and I'll replace it tomorrow. I hate the stupid cork gaskets but that's all these places seem to have around here. How can I make it not leak this time? Last time I cleaned both surfaces very well and used a small amound of sealant. I tightened the bolts so that the gasket just started squeazing out a little bit. When I saw that it was leaking, I tightened them down a little more. I don't want to have to do this again so any advice is welcome. BTW, is it ok to use the Dextron III or whatever they have now? Parts store said it was ok.
