: Gdog, the 289/302 pistons are the same, orginal ones were different but not now. they give different compressions because of the stroke, rods are the real diff. for the crank strokes.
Gaskets are diff in the intake manifold, plus had EGR gaskets , after 77 they all did. Some gasket companies for simplicity make one set for up to the roller hyd. year, 85, that's why 85 is diff along with EFI, and some heads use different holes, and some head gaskets work for them all. Just depends on the Manufacturer.
My stupid questions of the day...
: Stupid question #1: Summint racing sells an engine rebuild kit for the Ford 302 for $209.99. The kit contains most eerything needed, but the list as being for 77 - 84 302's. Why? did they make a change which make these engines different? Northern Auto Parts sells a kit for $236.00 for 68 - 84 302's... Just a little confusing.
: Stupid question #2: Do the 289 and 302 use the same piston? I know the main difference in these eninges is the stroke...
: Thanks, Brian.
