Many moons ago back towards the end of the summer of 72, back when my Mav was barely 3 months old, I had already torn up 3 column tubes because I had it out racing every weekend at the local strip. I could power shift the colum but it couldn't hold up to the abuse.Ford replaced the first one under warrenty but told me to take a hike after I broke that one in less than 2 weeks. I went looking for a floor shifter & found none so I called Hurst & found out they had just came out with a shifter for the Mav. It wasent an Indy though, it was the competition plus shifter. I bought it & didnt have to cut anything but a hole in the floor for the shifter to come thru. It fit beautifully & worked like a dream. The Indy shifter was a less expensive hust shifter. At least back then it was. It had a smaller, rounded shift handle where the competition plus was the familiar flat bar type. I still have this shifter in my shed. I guess i'll never use it again so if anyone's interested in it let me know.
If you have to cut a crossmember than maby that is not the right shifter for that car
