I installed a 4 gear and a hurst shifter out of a totalled 67 shelby into my 76 mav and only thing i had to modify was the bellhousing bolt holes ( had to tap new ones) and had to trim a small section of floor for the shifter. My car came originally with 3 spd standard on the floor.
: I just got my Maverick (1970, 3 spd, 200ci) and the previous owner gave me a floorshifter he had. He said he just hadn't gotten around to putting it in. It's a Hurst Indy SSA 3 Spd Floor Shifter P/N 501-0002. From what I can see, I need to cut about 6 inches out of the cross support for the floorboard to get the bracket in. Is this wise to do, or it still be sound? Has anyone out there installed one of these? If so, was it worth it? I really do hate the wide gate on that column shifter. Thanks.
