Well, those big bumpers do a good job protecting the car (at least when its rear-ended). They actually have a shock absorber type affiar that is supposed to allow the bumper assembly to push in and absorb some of the shock without transmitting it to the frame. They're theoretically supposed to protect the car from hits as high as five MPH without allowing any damage to the car.
I got hit once, and had absolutely no damage, even though the Honda that hit me sits lower than my car. If I had a small bumpered car, both cars (most likely the Honda) would have had more damage.
