If TBR's suggestion does not cure the looseness you might want to check all of the other steering components ie: the rag joint between the streering colum and the steering box, the pitman arm joint(the part that hooks to the center link from the steering box), the Idler arm(the arm that hooks the center link to the frame on the other side of the car), and all of the tie-rod end inner and outer(the arms that hook the center link to the wheels). If you have power steering check the actuator mounting point on the frame to see if it is loose, check to see if the pump has fluid. Also check to see if there is any play in the front tires by pulling on the top, front and back to see if it moves with a lot of play, this might indicate loose or broken upper or lower ball joints. all of these things can cause "play" in the steering wheel. Good Luck, and I hope that guy get's the message.

: Just wondering how to take the 'play' out of my steering wheel. How easy is it? Or is it just a pain in the ....well you know what!
: Thanx all!
