I can't believe anyone would put a 1 inch piece of ANYTHING on that package tray! It must look like crap. Why do you need that kind of system inside a car anyway? Are you asking for hearing problems? If you want all that noise, buy one of those Jap mini trucks and put the speakers in the bed, then you can wake up the entire neighborhood as you go pounding down the street. As for the Maverick, put it back together the way it was intended, add a REASONABLE audio system, and you'll be much happier...
: I too have a pair of 6X9 speakers on the back dash of my grabber, they are placed on either side of a 4 channel amp (100wattsX4 channels) enclosed in baffels, I was looking for wieght reduction so rather than place a heavey chunk of plywood over them I used a piece of 1" thick foam. I fastened it to the metal dash with LOTS of silicone and covered the foam with black cloth to match the rest of the color, no more rattles and it sounds pretty good too, most importantly, the speakers are not easy to see or remove and the foam baffles around them really makes em sound good.
: : :I presume thats 200 Watts each per 6X9 speaker. As an audio design Engineer, I must tell you that is WAY TOO MUCH for those 6x9s. If it holds together I then say some one who sold you this equipment (dealer or maker) is lying about the power rating, but then most people in the audio bizz lye.
: : However, to get rid of the vibration, nothing works better than mass. Remove the speaker board and make a new one from 3/4 inch marine grade plywood. Fasten it in well, and reinforce with mass the next part that rattles or buzzes.
