Good deal on the Mav!
JC kinda charges a lot for shipping too. You can get a TCI or B&M shift kit for less than $40, they usually have 3 stages, firm shift, hard shift, and all out race. The reason for drilling a hole in the valvebody is to make 3rd shift quicker (not slip under power), because the plate in the c-4 has a tiny hole so it shifts slower, but it just ends up frying 3rd in performance applications. The TCI and B&M rebuild kits are a bit pricey, but they include just about everything (seals, clutches, etc.).

: I just picked up a '73 2dr. 302, c-4 with floor shifter and bucket seats. It runs as long as I keep pouring gas down the carb so I'm gonna rebuild it tommorrow. It has mag wheels and everything. Probably a parts car for my '72 302 but could be more. I paid $300 for it.

: Here's the question: I want to rebuild the trans from my new car and put it in the old one. Who makes a good rebuild kit and shift kit. I want harder shifts but not too hard. Do I need any special tools? I saw a "high performance" rebuild kit with one of those shift kits you can program yourself by drilling wholes or whatever in a JCWhittney Catalog for $90 but I'm not sure about JC stuff.
