I sure hope you're talking eigth mile and not regular quarter mile drag racing !!! If you are talking quarter mile, you cannot get a back halfed car in the sixes, and no 460 is gonna run sixes either. Bob Glidden had a hard time getting in the sixes (if he even did) with a 500 c.i. Hemi Ford that's all aluminum ! The IHRA Pro Stock Ford's barely run sixes with their mountian motor Pro Stocks with like 800 Cubic inches !! Running sixes runs a lot more that 20 grand.
: If you are serious about making this a full time drag car( not on the street) you can save a lot of weight by tubing the rear end and putting on a complete rear end section, there are a lot of pre fab units out there with the differential in it. Also you can get a Fiberglass deck lid. Since you are going with the 460 you mine as well redo the entire front end with a tubular chassy and tilt one piece fiberglass front end. with this done even with the 460 in it you car should only weigh around 2000lbs. and if you build the 460 right you could get aruond 1000hp without nitrous. this combination will be very very fast! Trust me I have a friend with this same combination and he runs in the high 6 second range. But the cost is high for this package, I think he paid around $20,000.00 total to complete the car and he did almost all of the work himself including the engine work. Part are expensive these day's. Good luck and have fun with your project.
