You might not be looking at as much money as you think. It doens't cost a whole lot to have the housing narrowed. If the car was early enough to have straight axles and not tapered ones, (if the diameter of the shaft is the same the whole way out the axle.) then they can be cut and resplined. I forget what year they went to tapered axles though. It was sometime in the mid '70s.

: Hi! Well, i finally got the old coil spring perches cut off my Torino 9" rear, and now i need to go about cutting it so it will fit (width-wise). My question is, how much is this going to cost, and what am i going to do about the axles? Since the axles are long, they'll have to be replaced (i hope they don't weld those too??? lose all the integrity!). Will those cost a fortune, or are they relatively cheap?
: I called the local places, it's going to be months before i can even get in to get an estimate.

: Thanks!
