: I was browsing the junkyard today getting a rear window for my mav, and I saw an '87 LTD wagon with a 5.0 motor in it!!!! It isn't quite like a 5.0 mustang motor. The intake manifold looks like its turned backwards (inlet on drivers side). Also if I remember right, don't the '87 motors have Speed Density control for the EFI, where '88 and later had Mass Air meters? The guy told me I could have it and all the wiring for $200. But it definitely looks like an all-day job, sorting through the wiring and making sure I have it all. The motor only has 66000 miles on it, does anyone know if This LTD motor is as powerful as the 5.0 mustang motor(i think they were rated at like 215hp) ?

That sounds like a pretty good deal to me, I had a 87 T-Bird with a 5.0, they were rated a 185 horse power. The previous owner had made a few modification to the motor, the car would fly! I raced Mustangs and Pontiac Firebirds and won, in fact I never lost until I raced one of the newer Formula Fire Birds. The only problem was the motor mounts couldnt handle the power the motor was putting out, I rip out the mounts twice, leaveing the bolts in the frame. I dont have to worry about that any more since someone pulled out in front of my wife and the car was totaled. I took the motor and put it in a 79 Ford Ranger, it now has a Edelbrock carburerator and intake manifold instead of fuel injection. Any way, sorry to tell you my whole life story, they are great motors, and you are right they do not have mass air flow in that year. Mine got good fuel mileage, 19 local and 28 on the high way with the air condition on going an average of 75.
