The tank sits to the left on all '71-'77 Mavericks and there is enough room to run the pipes on both sides (my '73 has 'em). Any good exhaust shop can do it from the manifolds back for around $200. Anything beyond 2-1/4 inch pipe is a waste because there is no increase in power but it will be louder...
: I think he means the exhaust tubing. I've actually wondered the same thing about my 4dr. The problem is on a I6 model car the gas tank sits to the left a little, this makes room for the muffler on the right side. Put in dual exhaust for an engine swap and the mufflers sit back further thus the extra space on the right isn't needed. It doesn't appear that there is enough room (safety) to run a pipe straight out on the left side though. But in answer to your question Dan, I have seen ways to get around the problem. They just consist of having the pipe exit further out...to the left. Not as nice to look at in my opinion...but hey, it works.
