A performance cam will do you little good if you have the stock 2bbl. carb/intake and single exhaust. You need to get "first things first". All american V-8s respond well to a 4-bbl. swap & dual exhaust system. After you get that, a Competition Cams 268-High Energy cam will give you that racey idle you mentioned and perform well from 1500-5500 RPM. You must also replace lifters and valve springs, retainers, locks, etc...
: In the near future I'm planning to doing a cam swap. I want all-around improved performance with maybe a little better sounding idle for my 302. The dual exhaust is also coming soon and the Performer manifold/carb sometime in the future. Its a daily driver to school and work. I don't want to effect gas mileage much either. What numbers should I look for in a cam and will I need new springs, lifters, pushrods, etc? Anyone know what the stock cam specs are?
: Thanks
