Yes, there were Shelby Mavericks....303 to be exact. And there is documentation on them...but as stated, none are known to exist :(
===================================================================
: Shelby of Mexico did produce a Shebly Maverick. The Mustang they made even looked different, it was a coupe body instead of a fastback. I read an article in a Mustang magazine about them. There are no Mavericks known left in existance... I live on the border, and believe me there's a good chance that there's still a couple around. I hear of people finding rare cars over there all the time.... Boss 429's, GT500s... even some rare communist cars ( Chevy's ).
: :
: : : The 351 W was absolutely, NEVER, an option on ANY Maverick/Comet. I don't care what you find, it was never a FACTORY option (You knew there had to be a catch)
: : : There were several dealers and aftermarket companies that bought Mavericks, modified them, then sold them to the public. There was one dealer up in Michigan selling "Mod Mavericks" that had side pipes, air shocks (oh no), and alum wheels. There were also "Stabber Grabbers" too, I believe. Down in Texas there was a company making a Maverick called the "Drag-n-Fly" that had some wild fiberglass pieces added to it. Lots of these cars are "undocumented", except for the "Drag-n-Fly" which I know the Maverick Connection has some documentation on. I recently had a guy contact me wanting to sell me his Drag-n-Fly. On these cars, unless you have a lot of documentation to go with it, it is hard to prove.
: : : Anyways, it is possible these cars had a 351W in them....but it wouldn't be FACTORY!!
: : : ==============================================================================
: : : : It probably wasn't even a 351, but if it was, it was swapped in by the (a) previous owner. What proof do you have that it was even a 351???...
: : :
: : : : : The car had a few braces that looked to be factory that
: : : : : I have never seen in any other Mav. I checked and the
: : : : : 351W was an option for that year. I also talked to a
: : : : : few people at the local mustang club here in Houston. If
: : : : : it was factory, then it was as rare as a GT 500 Mustang.
: : : : : Now I wish I had kept some infor about the car. There
: : : : : is a possibility that my dad has some old insurance papers
: : : : : with the VIN. If so I will post it and maybe find a pic
: : : : : but he lives in south Texas and I probably won't visit for
: : : : : about a month. Anyway now I am as curious as heck.
