Nitrous is expensive, it works, and your engine must be built to handle the extra horsepower. What else do you want to know?...
: I got my first car when i was 14 too, 73 Ranchero 500, still have it and i'm 17. Right on about not owning honda's. I guess most kids think that loud mufflers and racing stipes mean performance. Too bad my good friend Ben had a honda as his first car, i'm sure he'll regret it. He's the one who wants Nitrous in his 71 grabber, but no one wants to post any answers. . . . .

: : I got my first car when I was 14. My uncle gave me a '67 Ford Galaxie 500. It was in great shape EXCEPT for the rusted out quarters and trunk. He used it to tow a sailboat and launched it in the bay. I kept it for about a year and decided it was too much work for my first car. I sold it and bought my '72 Maverick w/302 and near perfect body and interior for $1,500. I know I would have spent twice what I've spent on my maverick if I'd decided to keep it. I'm only 16 but I feel I know a lot more about cars than 95% of my peers. Even though my car was in great shape when I bought it, I have still spent MANY weekends under my car fixing things. If I were you I'd wait until the old lady up the street kicks off and her garaged '71 with 50k miles goes into the paper. You did choose the right KIND of car though. I'd rather drive a beat-up '70 Maverick with a 170 than a '99 Honda Civic any day. Sorry for the long post, but that's how I feel.
: : : Wow, well I sure am glad that you have warned me about all of this. I never knew that there could be this many problems to worry about. I'm sure you could guess I'm not a mechanic :P , I just know enough about cars to get by, and rebuilding the original 250 would not be worth it. It didnt look too damaged, but i noticed some of the valves were busted. Thanks for warning me about swaping engines, the guy who would do it for me would get it running, but it would probably be a large hassle. And the quarter panels were pretty busted up in the rear end near the trunk (aka you could see through the trunk). But for 150 dollars it wouldnt be a bad parts car. Thanks, and if any of you are selling your mavericks, maybe we can talk. -Brian
