Keep the 6 in the Grabber and have a V-8 GT Comet too ! Aint nuthin wrong with having two cars !
: Ben,
: Being somewhat of a purist, I'd hate to see you carve up what sounds like a pretty nice original Comet GT. Having a factory V-8 and a Traction-Lok rear makes it kind of special. Even we Maverick/Comet nuts don't see many of them anymore and it seems like a shame to make a parts car out of something even you said was "definitely nice". Go look at the car - if it's not a rust bucket with a lot of K-mart rash, then $975 sounds pretty reasonable.
: All of the mechanical parts (engine, rear axle, etc.) will swap with your Maverick, but the most you could hope for on body parts is the doors. As I'm sure you're aware, the later model big-bumpered Comets have different sheet metal up front and in the rear too, so if you're looking for a hood or lower valances you can forget it.
: Personally, I'd like to see you keep the Comet original, but that's just my opinion. Do what you want, I'm sure you will anyway! :)
: Sam
: : : I found a 75 commet gt in the paper and the guy is asking 975 for it.
: : : I was wondering how fair of a price this is. It sounds like its in good
: : : condition: body strait, rebuilt 302, auto trans. I have a 71 Grabber with
: : : a 250 so i want somthing that i can do an engine swap (and whatever other
: : : parts are needed to swap it). the Commet Gt is definatly nice but i'd rather
: : : have the Grabber. Well let me know what parts are iterchangeable with
: : : with my 71 Maverick and if it sounds like a good idea to you.
: : It also has positraction. Will the rear end swap? I spelt comet wrong too. oh well
