I'm not sure about 16" wheels, but I know after trial and error,
that on 14x6's a 235/60 was the largest you could get under the fenders
and not contact the front rails under severe driving. A cheap way to check
is to simply build yourself a cardboard model of the tire out line. Go to the
tire/wheel shop, lay the cardboard out on the backside of the wheel across the
lugs and cut it to fit the rim/wheel combo, then lay it over another piece of
cardboard to make an image of the inside take your front tire off and turn the wheel
full lock and lay your mold on the hub. Check it all the way around but the most likely rub
is at the front with the frame and at about 10 o'clock on the fender (when suspension is compressed)

: and NO 60s. They'd have to be like 225/55R-16 or 225/50R-16...

: : I want to get some different wheels and tires put on my 77' mav. Would
: : 2 16x7 wheels with a 50 series tire clear the wheel wells and not hit the
: : sides when i turn and would 2 16x8's with 60 or 50 series tires clear the
: : back?
