I had a '72 in 85. it was a POS, but it ran. I was heavy into woodworking at the time, so I custom made a console to fit on the floor hump under the dash. I would do it again if I were to put in an aftermarket radio. It made the whole process easy. I was able to install everything ( this was before the era of the BOOM which I never really dug) while at the comfort of the workbench. I even put two speakers(one each side) in the console. I ran a wire direct to the unit from the battery with an inline fuse, and ordered a wiring harness from some aftermarket company. Most come with their own harness today. I put in the speakers and wiring first. I imagine these days you would probably put an amp in the trunk. I would keep the wiring neat and if possible color coordinate to the harness with the unit. I later added a pice of smoked plexigalss to cover the front of the stereo to reduce the casual thief's interest.

My current Mav has an AM in the dash, and since the interior is in good shape I'm probably going to keep it pure. If I get to the point where I really want to listen to the same tunes as I did in the first Mav ( '74 I had from 81 to 83 )I'll do it again and keep a set of plans. I do have a nice piece of birdseye maple lying around. As soon as I get this car mechanically sound........
