i know the difference....i work at a salvage yard
and i know from personal experience on the falcon (64) 3 rears were offered 7.25, 8", and 9" a friend of mine has a ranchero (64) and it was factory 9" of course it was 1 of 1009 built with a 289 hipo and 4-speed....i agree that the econoline and falcon share parts....so i spose if the faclons could be had with all 3 rears so could they in the e-line....believe me i was as shocked to see it in there...and i bought it ....hehe....perk!!

: Uh, I think those were equipped with the eight inch rears...they were based on Falcon running gear. An easy "differentiator" (pun intended!) is that IF the third member ('pumpkin') can be removed with a socket and extension (NO interference removing the 'bottom' nuts) it's an 8". IF the 'bottom' nuts have to be removed with a wrench (the pinion housing interferes) then it's a 9"

: : i was digging around the yard the other day and thought id look and see what rearend a cab-over early 60's econoline van had....guess what...9"
: : and its narrow like ours....hehe
