: O.K. Here is how you remove the collar (some of which you have done). Remove the sterring wheel. Remove the turn signal switch. Remove the ignition switch (not absolutely necessary). The is a snap ring that hold the bearing in place. This will need to be removed with a snap ring removal tool if you want to save the ring, or with a couple of screwdrivers if you want to trash it. I think there might be a couple of nuts/bolts to remove, but I can't remember. After all this, the ignition collar should come off now. Below this collar shold be the collar that your gear selector is mounted into.

: Anyways, I hope this helps.

: : I posted a couple weeks ago about heater and wiper controls, which I now have fixed.
: : Thanks for the tip to go for the instrument cluster rather than the entire dash!
: : By the way, the wiper control that only worked on high speed was due to me burning out
: : the after-market wiper delay control. A little solder and a bit of wire and it works again!

: : I have a 74 Maverick with a 3-on-the-tree. The steering is a bit loose, the shifting is very
: : loose, and there is a loud clunk in the steering column when the front wheels go over a bump.
: : Any ideas (besides getting a four speed)? I'm trying to take apart the steering column, and
: : have been partly successful. Steering wheel is off, screws and parts are out from behind it.
: : I'm down to the collar that has the ignition switch in it, and I got the switch out, and I've
: : removed all the screws and spring clips that I can see, but it still doesn't come off. Is there
: : something hidden that I'm missing? Do I have to take out the spring C clip at the bottom of the
: : ignition switch hole?

: : Thanks for any help on this long posting.
