It can be done (converting to small bumpers) but I heard it's a real pain in the ass. You have to change the mounting brackets and remove the 5mph "impact absorbers". I replaced mine a few years ago and had to cut the bolts off with a torch because there's a nut in the other side of the bolt and it's inside the frame; no way to get a wrench on it so it just spins when you turn the bolt head. But when it comes to Mavericks, just remember: where there's a will--there's a way...

: Well, I found another one to drive while I've got my '71 off the road for a major overhaul. The thing is it's a '76 and I really don't like those big bumpers. I was looking it over and it seems like changing it to small bumpers would be a direct bolt on. Has anyone done this before? Do the parts bolt on, or won't this work? Another thing is that it has a tan interior and needs a paint job. Does anyone have pics of a mav with a tan interior that isn't brown? I'd really like to avoid that color.
