Well, that's what someone told me and I just believed 'em. But it is true that it uses Type 'F' for the power steering...
: difference in color for leak detection, are you really serious? wow
: : -- '70s Fords used Type-F ATF for the power steering. It's what I have in my '73 as well. The only reason that the P/S fluid that you buy now is clear is so that if you have a leak, you can tell where it's coming from. Otherwise, you wouldn't know if the leak was from the transmission or from power steering...
: : : bought a 73 4dr 302 last month. had to replace some power steering hoses
: : : (soft & old-- would not pass MD inspection)
: : : When I drained the fluid, it was red-- like ATF fluid.
: : : New power sterring fluid is colorless (yellow).I am without
: : : a chilton, and the local mechs don't want to take the
: : : time to talk. I won't elaborate on the IQ of the part's
: : : clerk.
: : : At first when I replaced it, the pump started 'moaning'.
: : : After 2 days (approx 35 miles)it has quieted, but is still faint.
: : : Any feedback?
