First I am NOT a Mechanic as I have mentioned before "shadetree ONLY" but in reference to the trans fluid debate I worked through High School at a real live Service Station with real mechanics who (this was early to mid 70's) used to debate amongst themselves over the differenct additives to the leaded and start of the unleaded gas, Non detergent/High Detergent Oils STP Paste etc and the people who liked the Trans Fluid (again I dont know..) said every other oil change put a pint of trans fluid in your oil(in place of a pint of your oil choice) because trans fluid is actual close to a 10 wt super high detergent oil that would clean lifters oil paths etc and once a month put a quart (remember this was in the 20+ gallon tank days) which was not to clean the carb but to add a "lubricant/cleaner" to intake valve guides stems etc and that it was dilute enough not to foul plugs etc. I followed it for years until all the new computer engines-additives-senors etc made it seem a waste (which it may have been then) but that was where some of this may have come from. Just FYI not meaning to ruffle any feathers or rekindle debates because there are a lot more long time real mechanics out there that may see the reasoning or insanity of the advise better than me.. by the way HAPPY NEW YEAR everone....

: : : Besides a new set of points, and a cap and rotor, check to see if the advance is working well on the distributor. Also, You might try filling up your tank with gas and adding one quart of transmission fluid. I know it sounds crazy, but a buddy of mine is a mechanic, has his own shop, and recommended this to me. It supposedly will clean the carb.
