I'm assuming that they are since Mercury and Lincoln are all Ford products. M for Mercury and V for Loncoln. I could be wrong though...

: :Thanks for the part id info.

: Now is this info the same for the Mercury line? Are Comet parts identified with the same C, D, or F third digit/letter? And are Cougar parts noted with a Z?

: You were correct in that the first two 'digits' are the year of ORIGINAL design of that part (some Mav parts carried D1's all the way through their "run"). The next two are for the ORIGINAL model it was designed for (DZ is USUSALLY a Maverick 'origin' part if preceded by a "Dx" #, a "Cx" # would USUALLY be a Falcon 'origin' part). The next 'group' of #'s is the "basic" part #...16612 would be a hood and any letters afterwards would further 'specify' a part if more than one version of it was available (applies across the entire car line).
: : Thus:
: : D0DZ 16612-A is the elusive part we ALL seem to covet...A Grabber Hood (scoops not included!)

: : BTW I would be interesed in hearing about ANY parts with TZ or ZZ as their 3rd & 4th 'digits', especially if they're of the "Cx" 'vintage' .

: : Your homework, class, is to figure out what models these apply to...;-)
: :
: : : The auto shop teacher in my department arranged to have a Lincoln Mercury Dealership donate it's obsolete parts to the school. Figuring it would give the students an opprtunity to learn the FoMoCo parts codes and parts identification, we accepted their donation. That's the good news. The bad news is that we didn't anticipate them donating $47,000/THREE truck loads worth of parts. Anyhow, we need to sort through the stuff and keep what's useful to the school and do something with the rest.

: : : As an avid Maverick/Mustang buff, I have started to put aside any 1977 and earlier parts. I know that part of FoMoCo part numbers state the decade/year (C9 = 1969), what do the second set of letters relate to? And are the remaining numbers of the code organized in some fashion, as well?

: : : If all goes well, we'll sort through the 100 or so boxes in the upcoming week or two and be able to let you know what's there.
