Actually, that's only partly true; If you keep the same kind of tires on each axel, there'll be no problem. For example: if you had bias ply on the rear and radials up front (or visa-versa), you'll have no problem. But DON'T put one radial tire and one bias-ply tire of the front...
Also MIXING bias ply's and radial's is a big NO,NO, it could be hazardous to your health.
