Sounds like you have an air leak between the carb and the manifold. Check the gasket.

: I've got a '72 maverick with a 200. While driving the other day it would die when I came to a light and pushed the clutch. It wouldn't idle. I was planning a carb rebuild anyway, so I thought it was time. I went through the carb with a kit, kept the old float, but adjusted it to specs. Now, when it should be at idle, it revs and tries to die, then revs and tries to die, and so on. Its got a good fuel filter. I thought it might be the float so I checked the measurements, and all was fine. I'm stumped. Any ideas? Thanks
