If you're running a 4-barrel, (especially a Holley), the secondaries can "stick"open and cause the motor to rev out of control. Also check the throttle return spring...

: Try wiring your 12v to the "I" post of your soleniod, this is "switched" and should satisfy the wiring question...I don't think this would cause it to continue to rev though...try checking the float in your carb, maybe it's "feeding" too much fuel to the "monster" (you said it roared!) Ignition ALONE will not cause the revs to climb uplike that.

: : Okay..I’m trying to hear the purr of my newly built v8. Actually I already heard it roar. That’s the problem. I started her up and it sputtered to life, but the the rpms just kept going up…kinda like someone was pushing the throttle don…but no one was. Then, when I freaked out and went to shut off the ignition the engine wouldn’t stop. Ihad to run around and disconnect the battery. I think the problem may lie in the ignition stuff. It’s all new mallory stuff and everything is wired right except for one thing that I am not sure about. The ballast. One side is supposed to be connected to “+12 volts from ignition switch” Where do I make this connection. I just figured that the side of the starter solenoid with the starter on it would work. That’s what I’ve done. Could that somehow have caused what I’ve explained. Any ideas or input would help….
