Sounds to me like a choke pull-down problem. Namely that the choke operates fine when you first start it (choke operates correctly as per the good idle & start) and once you go a little ways the choke opens fully even though the engine has not quite warmed up all the way.
A few questions.
1. After idling for 3 minutes in your driveway and then racing the engine a bit does it start to stall and falter when it goes to idle?
2. Once the engine warms up does it still have this stalling behavior at idle?
3. Do you smell gas after restarting when the engine stalls?
Sounds like something is "sticking" when the engine is cold and becoming "unstuck" when it warms up. Some things to check are
Stuck choke: First start of the day (cold engine) Remove the air cleaner, pump the gas pedal three times (choke should CLOSE) let engine idle for about 15 minutes. As you watch the choke it should slowly open as the engine warms up. If it doesn't then you possible have a bad choke pull-down diaphram.
The PCV Valve: Ford are notorious for needing a perfectly functioning PCV valve. It's cheap so replace it anyway.
Vacuum Advance on the distributor. Check it with a timing light when the engine is cold.
: My Maverick 302 seems to have a problem with mornings. I start it up about 5-10 minutes before I leave to go to school in the morning. The car starts, runs, and idles fine. After I leave, its about a mile from my house to the nearest stop sign. When I pull up to stop, it starts idling rough and then stalls. It always starts again and runs just fine after that. The mornings are not cold. (60 degrees) I bought some STP fuel treatment and ran that through the motor and also cleaned my carb/choke because I thought it might have been a sticky choke and it didn't do any good. Is this a choke adjustment? How do I adjust it? Something else?
: Thanks
