Don't know if its any help but I blew one of those hoses (in the driveway thank god) so I took it off and went to the local parts store and bought the new one. Costs $16 but it sounds like it was a lot easier than what you're going through.
: I have recently noticed that the power cylinder hoses
: (the two small hoses that run from the control valve to
: the power cylinder under the car) have started to leak.
: In a fit of industriousness, I decided to replace them
: myself. Based on past experience changing the power
: steering pump, and the information in the Auto Krafter's
: catalog, I ordered the flared fitting hoses (two). To
: my annoyance, I discovered I had two different types of
: hose (one flared fitting and one O-ring fitting hose)
: when I took the old ones off. Actually, the O-ring
: hose only had a rubber O-ring on one end, the other
: end appearing to be a different style of a flared
: fitting. Of course, the other O-ring may have fallen
: off when I took it off without my noticing it, but I
: didn't find anything around the car when I looked.
: Does anyone else with a '76 Maverick or Comet have any
: experience changing these hoses? Before I order an
: O-ring fitting hose, I wanted to confirm if I can just
: order the standard O-ring fitting hose, or if Ford
: did something weird during the transition from one type
: to the other. The data plate shows the car was
: manufactured on 9/75.

: Thanks,
