Yes, most Auto PARTS stores (Napa, Carquest, Big A, etc.) will have those available. The Auto ACCESSORIES Stores (Pep Boys, Chief Kragen/Checker/Shuck's) can probably special them too.

: How about "crimping" something on to the end of the tab to keep it on there? Actually, there is supposed to be a little speednut/washer that goes there, but I am not sure you can buy those at a auto parts store or not. It is round, and looks like a washer....except there is a slit instead of a round hole. It has little teeth that keeps it on there once you push it on.

: Good Luck.

: : : The location of the screw would be about 2 or 3 inches or so down the cable. There is a tab on the cable that the screw goes thru.

: : Ah, I see what you're talking about: the screw that attaches the cable guide to the heater control frame
: : (or whatever you want to call that assembly). That screw is nice and tight. At the end of the cable is a
: : coil, which slips over a metal tab on the back end of the temperature lever. Same setup on the Defrost/Floor
: : lever. I can't see what was ever supposed to keep those cables on the tabs -- they just slip over them. I
: : guess I'm amazed the Defrost/Floor cable hasn't come off too. I can slip the heater cable back over the tab,
: : but it comes off again when I slide the lever a few times. I need to put something on the end of the tab to
: : keep the cable from sliding off, like a tight little rubber band. No, that would dry out and crumble (Colorado
: : is a very dry climate. I'll think of something.

: : : : Thanks for the great information! I gave up on taking the dash
: : : : out and just settled for the instrument cluster, which was easy.
: : : : Now the heater and wiper controls are more accessible, although I
: : : : certainly wouldn't say that it's easy to get to the wiper control.

: : : : BTW, the temp control lever on my 74 (no AC) has a little tab on
: : : : the end, and a coiled wire just slips over it. I can't see that there
: : : : was ever a screw or anything to really keep it there.
